You certainly can. Anyone who identifies with the values of the Rio 2016 Volunteer Programme can participate.
Do I need to speak English to take part in the Programme?
No, you don’t need to speak a second language to take part. The Rio 2016 Committee will provide user licences for an online English course to all candidates enrolled in the Programme in order to encourage them to learn another language.
I want to volunteer in the Games ceremonies. What should I do?
The Rio 2016 Volunteer Programme does not include the cast of opening and closing ceremonies. For more information about this area, click here.
What benefits will Games volunteers receive?
Taking part in the Games as a volunteer will be a unique experience. In order for all 70,000 volunteers to be able to make the most of this moment, the Rio 2016 Committee will provide exclusive training, including an English course, meals on work days and transport within the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, as well as a complete uniform.
I don’t live in Rio de Janeiro. Will there be accommodation for volunteers from outside Rio?
The Rio 2016 Committee is not responsible for accommodation and transport during the selection process and volunteering period. As a result, please make the necessary arrangements in advance.
Will I get paid leave during and at the end of the Volunteer’s Journey?
The Rio 2016 Committee is not responsible for paid leave. After enrolling, volunteers should plan in advance to take vacation or leave time from work, and to book accommodation during Games time.
How can I track each stage of the process up to 2016?
The best way to do so is to visit the Rio 2016 website or, if you have already enrolled, the Volunteer Portal.
What will the Organising Committee do with my information?
The Rio 2016 Committee will keep your information completely confidential. Your details will be used during your participation in the Volunteer’s Journey. In addition, for successful candidates, the accreditation process will require a criminal record check for all those involved in organising the Rio 2016 Games.

The second stage is Language Alignment, which is only for candidates who declared they know a foreign language. Finally, all candidates will take an interview, which could be in-person or online. In 13 Brazilian states and the Federal District, there will be a Training Centre where candidates who live in these locations will do their in-person interview. As a volunteer, will I have the opportunity to watch competitions?
Volunteers will perform a series of activities during the events. Some will be inside the competition areas but many will not. As a result, as a member of the Rio 2016 team, volunteers will share responsibility for making the Games happen and the focus must always be on the task at hand. Please note that volunteers will not receive any special accreditation or tickets to watch the competitions.
If my friends and I selected the same functions and areas of activity, will we be able to work together?
The Rio 2016 Committee will do everything possible to assign volunteers to their preferred areas, but we cannot guarantee they will be allocated to their chosen locations and activities because their experience may often be best harnessed in other areas. As a result, we do not guarantee you will perform your function in the same place and time as your friends.
