RIO 2016 OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE THIRD DIALOGUE WITH THE CIVIL SOCIETY
November 26th, 2015
The Rio 2016 Committee has recently welcomed civil society organizations and partners for the third time, in order to present the progress made in the actions carried out since the first edition of the “Diálogos” (dialogues), in 2013. Those were two days of an action-packed and highly motivational schedule. The event’s main goal, which this time around was guided by the theme of the Rio 2016 Games’ Legacy, was to reinforce its commitment to transparency and to provide feedback concerning issues discussed in the two previous editions, in 2013 and 2014.
Last Monday (November 16th) the main office’s auditorium turned into a focus point for ideas. The event, led by facilitators, mixed people, promoted interaction, brought about new knowledge and inspired discussions, with a view to achieving possible solutions.
With the intent of making participants embark on a playful trip, a “World Café” atmosphere was created, one that encouraged guests to express, through drawings and conversation, their perceptions regarding sustainability and quality of life in an ideal Rio de Janeiro.
The special appearance of two graphic facilitators bestowed particular charm upon this moment of the event. Motivated by the theme “Rio of my dreams”, they created an easy-to-understand visual summary, bringing together the issues dealt with during this first day of the Dialogues.
“This is the opportunity to welcome organizations to our home, to show them what we have been doing, and listen to their suggestions. Since 2013, the meetings have always been productive, and as we say goodbye, we have the clear mutual feeling that the mission has been accomplished. For all practical purposes, we are approaching the finish line. This has been very productive for the Rio 2016 and I am sure it was rewarding for them as well”, says Elisa Dettoni, the Rio 2016 Engagement and Legacy Coordinator.
Information panels show the consolidation of the big temes – Transparency, Accessibility, Child and Youth Protection, Education for Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, Climate Change, Urban Mobility, among others. For each one of the items listed, its current status was matched: incorporated, partially incorporated, not incorporated, or outside of the scope of the Committee. For recommendations that fit the last three of those categories, a justification was also provided.
Guests were introduced to other Rio 2016 projects, such as the “Transforma” (Transform – Education), the “Sobre Rodas” (On Wheels – Accessibility), the Volunteers Program, the Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, and also our partner, the “Passaporte Verde” (Green Passport).
The second day’s highlight was the involvement of governmental entities. The Municipal Olympic Enterprise (Empresa Olímpica Municipal), Rio’s Civil House (Casa Civil do Rio de Janeiro) and the Ministry of Sports (Ministério dos Esportes) were all present in order to show their actions.

Inspired by the conversations at the meeting, graphic facilitators created the event’s visual summary

The event featured dynamic activities during the two days that gave birth to new ideas.

Participants experienced, and approved of, the “On Wheels” suggestion.

The wheelchair experience included a tour around the Rio 2016 office building.

The Green Passport encouraged suggestions for a more responsible form of tourism.

Guests exchanged lots of ideas during the World Café.
