For the past ten years, the venue has hosted international football championships (Libertadores da América, the Recopa Sul-Americana and the Copa Sul-Americana). Prominent athletes who started their careers at the club include Falcão, goalkeeper Taffarel, Alexandre Pato, Nilmar and Leandro Damião, all of whom played for the Brazilian National Football squad.
