The Estádio Governador Plácido Castelo, more commonly known as the Arena Castelão, is located in Fortaleza, capital of Ceará state (Northeast Region of Brazil). Owned by the Ceará state government, the venue hosts the games of its three largest local football clubs, Ceará, Fortaleza and Ferroviário, and has been the stage of important games of the Brazilian Championships, international scrimmages and the Brazilian National Football Team.

It is currently undergoing reformation works which are scheduled for completion in December 2012. Upon completion of the works, the arena will be able to host one of the semi-final matches of the 2014 FIFA Brazil World Cup.

The venue features rooms appropriated for first aid, medical treatment, physiotherapy and massage, meeting, briefing and multimedia rooms, a restaurant, café and rest areas for athletes.

The venue is experienced in hosting Brazilian and international sporting events such as the friendlies between Ceará and Dutch team PSV Eindhoven, in 2010, between the Brazilian National Football Team and the Yugoslav National Team, in 2002, and the matches of the First and Second Divisions of the Campeonato Brasileiro (Brazilian Football league).
