Triathlon competitor Orione Mendes ran into a traditional Brazilian party in Alter do Chão on Friday, with local music and dancing and a memorable end-of-week atmosphere.

While waiting for the torch to arrive, freestyle footballer Ricardo de Araújo warmed up with some of his favourite party tricks.

Hiel Gesã has won dozens of competitions for sea kayaking in the Amazon region. "Carrying the torch in my home town makes me feel very special," he says.

Athletes from the village of Borari got into the Olympic spirit early to take part in a local competition for indigenous people. Sports included archery, canoeing, swimming, tug-of-war and running with logs.
