Fireman Carlos Sebastião de Souza normally puts out flames. As an Olympic torchbearer today he says his mission was to keep the flame alive. "I have been saving lives and putting out fires for 27 years. I love what I do."

Darwin Augusto may only be 16 but he is well aware of the responsibilities of carrying the Olympic Torch. "Representing hundreds of years of tradition is a powerful feeling." The experience has inspired him to work even harder at his martial arts.
