Swimmer José Silva carried the torch down the São Francisco River on Sunday (29 May). With a length of 2,914 kilometres (1,811 miles) it is the longest river that is entirely in Brazil, and fourth largest in South America.

Despite the rain, members of a cycling club from Propiá came to support the torch relay. "We came to pay our respects to the Olympic Torch in our town and spread the message of how sport is important for society," said Jabson Santana.
