It's been a long day for the torch relay today in Mato Grosso. In the afternoon, the relay passed by the Chapada dos Guimarães, a national park that is located near the geodesic centre of South America.

With her hair blowing in the wind and barefoot, Patricia da Silva carried the toch on horseback to the Transpantaneira, the railway that traverses the Pantanal region. "We love our life here. We seek to look after the Pantanal."

Luis Silva, a student from the city of Poconé, Mato Grosso, took the Olympic torch on a tour of the Pantanal aboard an indigenous canoe.

Brazilian Olympic swimmer Felipe Lima opened day 53 of the torch relay. Lima who participated at London 2012 said: "Bringing the Olympic spirit to the pantanal is a unique thing. I remember coming here as a child, hearing the animals sing at dawn."

This Friday (24), the Olympic flame visits of the largest wetlands in the world, the Pantanal. The natural waterscapes in the municipality of Nobres, also welcome the relay which finish its expedition in the Chapada dos Guimarães national park.
