Janildes Silva has represented her country in cycling for 20 years and is going to her fourth Olympic Games after Sydney, Athens and London. "I'm very happy to carry the torch in my own country. I go to Rio with even more enthusiasm and dedication."

Waikanosen is an indigenous athlete of Xerente ethnicity and was state futsal champion in the Youth School Games. "It's a unique moment representing my people. My dream is to one day be at the Olympics," he says.

Alceu Catapan, retired, is a pioneer in the development of sport in Tocantins. He founded the Athens Athletic Association after being inspired by the Athens 2004 Games. "I couldn't get to see the Games up close, so they came to me instead," he said.

Maurício Thomas Costa is a surgeon in Palmas and to relax from his stressful routine he runs and plays various sports, like tennis and basketball. "I was chosen by some students at the university where I lecture. I felt like a real athlete." he said.

LGBT activist Luiz Henrique Avila was kicked out of his house at just 12 years old for being gay. "I want this this flame to show that everyone deserves respect. I fight so that others don't have to go to go through what I have been through."

The Olympic torch arrived in Tocantins capital, Teresina, in a plane which has accompanied the torch entourage throughout the Northern leg of its tour. The captain gave a heartfelt speech on board and everyone arrived excited and inspired in Palmas.

Dentist Lucio Monteiro brought his giant torch costume all the way from Goiás and spent the day in Palmas following the torch. He returns home tomorrow. "It's national couples day tomorrow, right? If I'm not back my wife will cause a fuss." he said.

In Palmas, the Olympic torch will visit Graciosa Beach or Praia da Graciosa in Portuguese,famous for its beautiful sunset. The celebration ceremony for the torch relay will take place on the banks of Lago de Palmas..
