Today they lined the streets to cheer him on as he carried the torch. "This is the biggest sporting symbol in the world, the biggest in my profession" he said full of pride.

Sprinter Lucimar Aparecida Moura was part of Brazil's 4x100m relay team at the Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. "Carrying the torch is more emotional than competing in the Games," she said. "And with this, we can enjoy people's joy without being nervous about the result."

Youngsters in Naque have decorated the town's roads to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch. "Everyone wanted to mark the torch's presence in the town, it was a lot of fun," said 18-year-old Isaque Alvez.

Carlos Magno da Costa and Liliane Sena Silveira have done their part in making Naque ready for the torch. The couple spent 7 hours decorating the city with balloons. "It's really gratifying to do something that will be part of history."
