A Macaé resident since the 1960s, Rossini Medeiros had the honour of lighting the celebration cauldron in the city. The physical education teacher is responsible for the School Olympic Games organistation.

Many are unaware, but Bruno Chateaubrian was part of the Brazilian gymnastics team betweent 1992 and 1998 and is a six-time Brazilian trampoline champion. This Sunday (31 Juy), he relived his past as an athlete, carrying the Olympic torch in Macaé.

Fernando de Assis became known as Fernando Macaé, playing football for for Cruzeiro, Botafogo and Brazil's under-20s. Currently he has a football school for disadvantaged children. "May the light of the flame bring more incentive to the sport."
