There's more to the northeast than the sounds of forró and the accordion. One of the highlights of this morning's torch relay in Ipojuca was the performance of the town's children's orchestra, all smartly dressed and playing their hearts out.

Surfing legend Carlos Burle is used to bigger waves, but he took the Olympic flame out on to the surf on his home beach of Maracaípe.
-
The Olympic Torch continued its marine journey today in the hands of multiple surfing champion Atalanta Batista, gently gliding along the mangroves of Pontal do Maracaípe.

Naercio Santana is a world champion in the popular Brazilian beach sport of footvolley. In resort town Porto de Galinhas, he took the Torch for a classic excursion: a short trip on a dune buggy over the white-sand beaches of Pernambuco.
-
It has been a maritime start to the day for the Olympic Torch in Pernambuco. Levy Souza used an amphibious wheelchair provided by his own NGO to take the torch onto a 'jangada,' a traditional fishing boat in widespread use in northeastern Brazil.
