The state of Goiás has a rich tradition in country music, from older more traditional songs to the pop-influenced 'sertanejo' that dominates today's charts. In Cidade de Goiás, three guitarists gave a special performance to celebrate the torch relay.
-
When the torch arrived in former state capital Cidade de Goiás, one of the first torchbearers was 83 year old sweet maker Silvia Curado. The grandmother is a well loved figure in the picturesque town and was visibly moved by her time with the torch.

The food of Goiás is an attraction in its own right. As well as celebrated dishes such as the local pie (empadão goiano), the delicious rice cakes, and the traditional pamonha, another Goiás speciality is ice cream made from the exotic fruits of Brazil's central plain, such as murici, cajá, graviola, jabuticaba, cagaita and pitanga.
-
Poet Cora Coralina (1889-1986) is one of the best-known writers from Goiás and her former home is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the state.
