• Fanfares from local schools in Feira de Santana performed during the Olympic torch's passage through the city. Among the pieces played was the "Tema da Vitória" (Victory Theme) made famous by Formula 1 television coverage in Brazil.

  • José da Silva Filho, leader of the Feira de Santana scouts group, said: "This is like a stamp of approval for the work that's done with 40 million yougnsters around the world. It's a daily struggle, and this flame makes me want to keep going".

  • Despite the rain, teacher Andrea Coloma, the first torchbearer in Feira de Santana, was full of excitement. "I want to inspire my pupils to follow the path of being disciplined and responsible," she said.
