The Arraial da Pavulagem group has been keeping musical traditions from Brazil's north alive for 30 years. "This was a dream come true", said band member Márcio Gomes after carrying the torch.

The starting point for the torch relay in Belém was the Olympic Stadium of Pará (the Mangueirão), where the party atmosphere was waiting with carimbó dancing, a style typical to the north of Brazil, performed group Os Baioaras.

On day 44 of the Olympic torch relay, the flame touched down in Belém where it was welcomed by carimbó dancers, typical to the region.

This Wednesday (15 June) the Olympic torch relay arrives in Belem, capital of Pará which this year celebrates its 400th anniversary. The Guamá River is one of the city's picture-postcards.
