Araraquara prepared a grand celebration in the city's stadium, the last stop for the Olympic torch relay.

Osmar "Pio" Volpe played as a winger for Palmeiras in the sixties. "I played in Greece and never imagined that the Olympic flame would make it out here to me. I am so honoured and happy principally to represent all footballers," he said.

Before the arrival of the Olympic flame at Araraquara's Arena da Fonte Luminosa stadium, Nisho Wadaiko put on a cultural show featuring traditional Japanese drums.

Roberto de Macedo has competed in equestrian from a young age. He represented Brazil at Sydney 2000. In 2016 he was unable to participate at the Olympic trials because of a problem with his horse, but experienced a new emotion as a torchbearer.

Roseli Gustavo da Silva was a part of the women's national basketball team in the nineties, a golden age for the sport, during which time she won a world title and silver medal at the Atlanta 1996 Games.
