Three large transportation projects are foreseen for the city of Rio de Janeiro over the coming years and until 2016: implementation of a public transportation corridor connecting Barra da Tijuca to the North Zone, implementation of a high capacity public transportation system connecting Barra da Tijuca to the South Zone and a new connection between Barra da Tijuca and Deodoro. Besides that, the city’s transportation system will continue to benefit from several improvements already underway, such as the expansion of urban streets, construction/renovation of new subway stations and the expansion and improvement of the train system.
