From basketball to golf, rugby to modern pentathlon, Rio 2016 has staged 12 test events since the turn of the year. New venues have been inaugurated, some of the world’s top athletes have been hosted, staff and volunteers have been trained, places at the Games have been won and crucial operations have been tested.

Many lessons have been absorbed, which will help Rio 2016 make the final adjustments necessary to ensure that the Olympic and Paralympic Games run smoothly. April will see another nine test events staged, with the programme ending in May with the final four competitions.

“We have started the year at an intense pace and already staged 12 fantastic competitions that have allowed us to conduct crucial tests and learn valuable lessons,” said Delphine Moulin, Rio 2016’s head of test events. “With 13 more events to come in April and May, the test event programme is ensuring that, by working closely with the International Sports Federations and our partners, we will be prepared to the highest possible level when the Games begin in August.”
