Gateway for visitors arriving by sea, Rio de Janeiro’s port area is undergoing an intense transformation process with Porto Maravilha Urban Operation. In total, an area of five million square metres will be revitalised. During the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the area will host the Media and Referees Villages, a Conventions Centre and two hotels.
The project’s scope includes structural interventions such as the complete demolition of the Perimetral Viaduct and the construction of a network of motorways, underpasses and tunnels. The Light Rail Vehicle (LRV), which will also pass through the area, promises to integrate the city and make commuting easier for thousands of people every day.
