Five of the best: students used their creative skills to pay homage to the Olympic Torch (Rio 2016)

The Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay is due to start on 3 May next year, spreading the vibe of the Games around Brazil. However, school children across the continent-sized nation have already entered into the spirit.

A special challenge among schools participating in the Rio 2016 education programme has seen youngsters create their own versions of the Olympic symbol, with an amazing prize at stake – the 10 best designs will receive a replica of the Rio 2016 Olympic torch in their schools.    

Pupils have until 26 October to submit their entries and here are five of the best sent in so far:

The building block torches
