A small fire damaged a temporary office in Barra Olympic Park, the main venue cluster for the Rio 2016 Games, on Thursday afternoon (7 January). The incident was quickly controlled and nobody was injured, the Rio 2016 organising committee was informed by the Rio city government, which is project managing the park’s construction, and the on-site security teams.
The temporary office belonged to a company contracted by the city government to carry out construction work and was close to the Olympic Tennis Centre, which was inaugurated during the tennis test event last December.
With the world’s attention ever more focused on the Olympic Games, any incidents related to the event take on grand proportions. However, this incident, which alarmed some residents around the Olympic Park, did not cause any damage to the Olympic venues.
