Rio de Janeiro hosting Star Class World Championship

Representatives from 20 countries will be competing at the venue where Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be staged
Starting on Tuesday January 12, Rio de Janeiro will be welcoming sailors from 20 countries to compete in Star World Championship. The competition will take place in the Guanabara Bay, where Rio 2016 Games competition will be held.
Brazil has 24 boats enrolled for the competition, and the Brazilian team is counting on four Star Olympic medalists: Torben Grael (gold medalist at Atlanta 96 and Athens 2004 Olympics and Bronze medal at Seoul 88 and Sydney 2000), Marcelo Ferreira (Atlanta 96 and Athens 2005 gold medalist and bronze medal at Sydney 2004 Games), Robert Scheidt (Beijing 2008 silver medalist) and Bruno Prada (Beijing 2008 silver medalist). Another highlight is the British pair Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson, Beijing 2008 Games gold medalists.
The World Championship features six races scheduled for January 16, 18 (two) 20, 21 and 22. January 19 and 23 are reserved for any cancellation. Championship rules require at least four full races to be completed. If more than four races are held, the worst result of each team will be considered.
