Learning from the experience of cities that have already hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games is one of the objectives of the organizers of Rio 2016. This coming Monday, 19 October, mayor Eduardo Paes sets off on a trip to Europe that includes visits to Barcelona, host city in 1992, Athens, host in 2004 and London, future host for the 2012 games. The brief for this international mission includes publicizing Rio de Janeiro, attracting new business and intensifying the exchange of information about the biggest sporting event on the planet.
The delegation also includes the special secretary for Rio 2016, Ruy Cezar, and the development secretary, Felipe Góes. The Olympic Games represent an incredible victory for the city in terms of attracting investment. We will take full advantage of this window of opportunity, which we owe to the IOCs favorable decision, to show our city to the world, said Eduardo Paes.
Revitalization of the Port District is one of the strategic initiatives to be presented during the working meetings abroad. The project was put forward in the Candidature File submitted by Rio to the International Olympic Committee. The district is the proposed site for the 1,840-room Olympic Village. In addition, ships will be docked in the port for use as floating hotels. Revitalization of the Port will open up an enormous range of possibilities, said the mayor.
