The President of the Rio 2016™ Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, was last Tuesday, October 9th, at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP as in the acronym in Portuguese) during the 23rd meeting of the Higher Council for the Construction Industry, which represents 204 organisations from the building construction supply chain. At the meeting, the Organising Committee President spoke about the “Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Business Opportunities.”
The Rio 2016™ President outlined the Games project and the impact of such an event on the city and the country. The Procurement Director, Fernando Cotrim, then spoke about the sustainable supply chain; the Games’ main requirements; the steps for the procurement programme, which will feature a dedicated website to be launched within two months; and the key economic sectors that will be directly involved in the staging of the Games. According to the Candidature File (2008), the Games procurement budget amounts to a total 3 billion Brazilian reals ($1.5 billion USD).
"The delivery of the Rio 2016™ Games is a great opportunity for the growth and strengthening of the whole country’s economy, through increased investment and new business development. The Games will take place in Rio de Janeiro, but they belong to Brazil,” Nuzman said.
