The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, in response to several public comments about the possible inclusion of sports, disciplines, and events in the Olympic Program for 2016, and after receiving numerous enquiries on the subject, hereby states that:
The criteria and conditions for the inclusion of sports, disciplines, and events in the Olympic Program are laid out in Rule 46 of the Olympic Charter, under the authority of the International Olympic Committee;
Generally, sports can be added to the program not later than the election of the host city, and disciplines or events up until three years before the opening of the Games.
The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, based on these premises, shall continue to study all proposals coming from the IOC regarding the inclusion of new disciplines or events in the program of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.
