As the Rio 2016 Olympic Games enter their second week, 29 of the 42 sports will be in action, with 82 finals scheduled between 14 and 17 August 2016. With the competition schedule published and tickets on sale, now is the time to start planning your Games. To help you put together your schedule, here is the third part of our special series, offering a day-by-day guide to the sporting highlights.
14 AUGUST

With 24 medal events, including the men’s 100m and 400m sprints and the men’s tennis final, 14 August 2016 could be an iconic day in Olympic history. It will also be a special day for fans of some of the most traditional Olympic sports, with the start of the equestrian jumping competition and the first Greco-Roman wrestling bouts.
Some highlights:
- Men’s 100m and 400m finals at the Olympic Stadium – will Usain Bolt make history?
- Men’s track cycling sprint finals at the Rio Olympic Velodrome
- Final round of the men’s golf tournament at the Olympic Golf Course
- Start of the equestrian jumping competition in Deodoro Olympic Park
- First Greco-Roman wrestling matches, with the men’s -59kg and -75kg finals at Carioca Arena 2
- Women’s springboard diving finals at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre
- Men’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles finals at the Olympic Tennis Centre
- Women's quarter-finals at the Beach Volleyball Arena
15 AUGUST

The individual artistic gymnastics apparatus competition is one of the highlights of the day, which will also include finals in athletics, boxing, track cycling, equestrian dressage, weightlifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, open water swimming and sailing.

- Men’s heavyweight boxing finals at Riocentro Pavilion 6
- Artistic gymnastics apparatus finals (women’s balance beam and men’s rings)
- Men’s table tennis team semi-finals at Riocentro Pavilion 3
- Quarter-finals of women’s hockey in Deodoro Olympic Park
- Women’s open water swimming at Fort Copacabana
- Synchronised swimming duets technical routines at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre
16 AUGUST

Women will take the lead on 16 August with the basketball and volleyball quarter-finals, football semi-finals and table tennis team final. Finals will be contested in another 11 sports: athletics, boxing, canoe sprint, track cycling, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, Greco-Roman wrestling, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, diving and sailing.

- Women’s basketball quarter-finals
- Canoe sprint finals at Lagoa Stadium
- Women’s football semi-finals at the Maracanã in Rio and the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte
- Men’s open water swimming at Fort Copacabana
- Men’s 3m springboard diving final at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre
- Women’s table tennis team final at Riocentro Pavilion 3
- Finn and Nacra 17 sailing medal events at Marina da Glória
17 AUGUST

This will be a combative day, with the start of freestyle wrestling and taekwondo as well as boxing medal bouts. Another seven sports have finals scheduled, including the grand finale of women’s beach volleyball on the sands of Copacabana.

- Women’s long jump, 200m sprint and 100m hurdles finals at the Olympic Stadium
- Men’s basketball quarter-finals at Carioca Arena 1
- Start of BMX cycling in Deodoro Olympic Park
- Men’s football semi-final at the Maracanã
- Start of women’s freestyle wrestling, with the -48kg, -58kg and -69kg finals at Carioca Arena 2
- Start of taekwondo, with the men’s -58kg and women’s -49kg finals at Carioca Arena 3
- Women’s final at the Beach Volleyball Arena
