The Rio 2016 mascots will be in good company when their animated series is premiered on Brazilian television on Wednesday 5 August – exactly one year from the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Best friends Vinicius and Tom will be joined by a delightful trio called Sol, Bela and Vida, who collectively are known as the Irmas Cariocas (Carioca Sisters).
Inspired by the beauty, energy and joy of cariocas, as people from Rio de Janeiro are known, the sisters will join the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games mascots in a host of colourful adventures in Vinicius e Tom – Divertidos por Natureza (Vinicius and Tom - Fun by Nature) which will be screened for the first time on the Cartoon Network channel in Brazil. The cartoons will be available for international audiences to watch online, on the Cartoon Network website, in the coming weeks.
Get to know the Carioca Sisters better:

All of Rio de Janeiro’s beauty is personified in this character – the exuberant nature, iconic architecture and diversity of its people. Bela enjoys making new friends and getting everyone together to appreciate the beautiful landscapes of the Marvellous City.

She symbolises the contagious energy of the cariocas, people who love sports and are always playing and having fun in the streets and on the courts, tracks and beaches of Rio. Sol is always keen to train and play hard, and is also an avid spectator, knowing everything there is to know about the Rio 2016 Games.

With a wide smile on her face, Vida is always welcoming people and making friends with the typical joy and affection of cariocas. For her, each moment is a reason to party. She knows everything about Brazilian music, dancing and gastronomy, and likes to gather the rhythms, flavours and scents of the whole world, reminding everyone to celebrate and respect and the diversity of people and cultures.
