Three more venues for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games are ready. The Rio city government, which is managing the construction of new venues, announced that work on the Future Arena, the Olympic Golf Course and the canoe slalom course are 100 per cent complete.

The Future Arena will host handball during the Olympic Games and goalball during the Paralympic Games. After the Games it will be dismantled and its parts will be used to construct four public schools in Rio, thanks to the innovative ‘nomadic architecture’ technique.

After the Games the canoe slalom course, whose rapids were first tested in September, will form part of a giant public leisure facility.  The golf course, which will host the sport’s return to the Olympic Games after an 112-year absence, will be a public facility after the Games with the aim of promoting the sport in Brazil.

Rio 2016 venues to leave sporting, educational and social legacy to city

The news was announced by the city government, which provides a update on venue construction each month (click to to see last month’s report). The overall readiness of Barra Olympic Park, the heart of the Games, increased from 92 per cent to 94 per cent. Earlier this month the city government handed over the keys to the International Broadcast Centre in Barra Olympic Park.
