Brazilian athletes in Beijing obtained the country’s best ever results in the history of the Paralympic Games. The 47 medals won in Beijing (16 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze) took the delegation to 9th place in the medals table, building on the success of Athens 2004, in which Brazil won 33 medals and ended in 14th place.

One of the sensations of the Beijing Games was Brazilian swimmer Daniel Dias, with nine podium finishes, including four golds. André Brasil, another swimmer, also won four golds and one silver medal. Sprinter Lucas Prado won three golds, while Antônio Tenório became the first judoka, and the first Brazilian, to win four consecutive Paralympic gold medals.

President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, sent a personal message to Vital Severino Neto, president of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, congratulating the Brazilian team on “the magnificent results obtained in the Beijing Paralympic Games, in which Brazil obtained its highest ever position in the medals table”.
