To mark the 100 days until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games milestone iconic buildings around the world were lit up in the colours of the Brazilian flag on Wednesday night (27 April). In the host city, the Christ the Redeemer statue glowed green and yellow, as did the Maracanã Stadium and the iconic Lapa aqueduct. Other famous sights participating included the London Eye, the pyramid in the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg, the Palazzo Pamphilj in Rome, the Aspire Tower in Doha and Komazawa Olympic Park in Tokyo.

The initiative took place on the same day that the Olympic flame was handed over to Rio 2016 in Athens. The location for the ceremony, the Panathinaiko Stadium, was also lit up in green and yellow.
