With their sights on the 2012 and 2016 games, the Brazilians shine at the Open Paralympics Championships
Four athletes from the Project which prepares talents for the next Olympic Games stand out in a competition held in New Zealand.
The Brazilian team did a good job at the Open Paralympics Championships, held in New Zealand: in three competitions they won 14 medals (eleven gold and three silver). Four of the medalists are part of the Brazilian Paralympics Committees Gold Project, which prepares athletes for the next Olympic Games.
The highlight was Jonathan Sants, Who is Just 19 years old. Gold medal for Shot Put, Javelin and Discus, he is pointed out as one of Brazils promises for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Terezinha Guilhermina won the 100m and the 200m dash, while Shirlene Coelho came first in Javelin and Discus, and second in Shot Put. Lucas Prado was Gold in the 100m dash and silver in the 200m and 400m.
The four are among the athletes selected for the Gold Project which offers support in the preparation for the London 2012 Olympic Games. In Beijing 2008, Brazil was in ninth, with 47 medals, out of which 16 were gold.
