In the latest episode, Elea shows Patrick where to find exotic fruits and quirky antiques in the Olympic host city

Tips 4 Gringos: Rio de Janeiro's best street markets

In Rio 2016's latest Tips 4 Gringos*, our intrepid duo explore the feiras (traditional street markets) of Rio.

Rio de Janeiro's traditional markets are great places to pick up a bargain, practise your Portuguese and, as Patrick discovered, try a delicious snack or two. Look out for the mind-boggling variety of fruit on offer, including the carambola, and get to know north-eastern culture at the Feira São Cristóvão.

Meanwhile. the traditional antiques fair in Praça XV on Saturday mornings is a great location for buying curios from the past, recent or distant.

As Rio de Janeiro welcomes the world for the Rio 2016 Games, Tips 4 Gringos has been made with the city’s visitors in mind. The video series shows tourists how to make the most of the carioca experience, featuring language advice, tips on where to party and find the best street food, where to take the best selfies and in this video, where to find Rio’s best street markets.

(*Disclaimer: Remember, 'gringo' is not an offensive term in Brazil, it is simply the word given to anyone that comes from abroad.)
