Would you like to see history being made as medals are won at the first Olympic Games in South America? If so, you are in luck, because tickets will go on sale this year for more than 300 finals in 42 sports at the Rio 2016 Games. And what’s more, the prices will be accessible – with the cheapest entry to medal events being 100 Brazilian reals (about US$37).

This fits with the overall philosophy behind the Rio 2016 ticketing programme, which will offer about 7.5 million tickets for more than 700 sports sessions, plus the opening and closing ceremonies. Prices will start at 40 Brazilian reals (about US$15) and you can see all the price ranges here.

“With a fair, transparent and accessible programme, we are intent on providing a Games in which everyone is included,” said Rio 2016 Ticketing Director Donovan Ferreti. “This is clearly evident in our prices: 3.8 million tickets will be priced at 70 Brazilian reals or under, and less than three per cent will cost over 600 Brazilian reals.”

Tickets will be available for 306 finals, including 20 that will cost just 100 Brazilian reals. These are: the marathon, BMX cycling, road cycling (race and time trials), gymnastics (trampoline), golf, race walk, canoe slalom and sprint, hockey, fencing, weightlifting, wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, marathonswimming, modern pentathlon, archery, shooting, triathlon and sailing.

Tickets for some of the most sought-after finals, such as the athletics with Usain Bolt and the basketball featuring the USA ‘Dream Team’, will be available from 350 Brazilian reals (US$130).
