As expected, the conclusion of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games has drawn even more attention to the Marvellous City. Since the end of the Games, operational work relating to client relationships and reception for the Rio 2016™ Games has already started for the Relations area, the area also responsible for the Olympic Village, which is now working with the National Olympic Committees (NOC) and the National Paralympic Committees (NPC).

Last week, the British Olympic Association visited in Rio de Janeiro and was informed on recent developments for the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games project. The group also visited the construction site of the Olympic and Paralympic Village for the subsequent Games.

The representatives from Team GB were at Ilha Pura, where the Olympic and Paralympic Village is being constructed

“It is important to strengthen ties with the Olympic and Paralympic Committees. Through them we can better understand the needs of the athletes, who are the stars of the Games, from now until 2016. During each visit, the NOCs and NPCs provide us with information on their specific areas of interest. We organise a presentation on the Rio 2016™ project and on the Pre-Games Training Camps. Other areas prepare specific presentations on themes relating to areas of interest of the NOCs or NPCs,” explained Mario Cilenti, Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Village and NOC/NPC Relations and Services Director.

Since the beginning of the year, Rio 2016™ has hosted seven visiting National Olympic Committees in the city. In addition to the British NOC, NOCs from Canada, Australia, Holland, the United States, Denmark and Switzerland have also visited Rio de Janeiro.

After visiting the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games host city, the representatives from Great Britain went to see some of the sites for the Pre-Games Training Camps located in other cities in Brazil.

Along with Director of Games Services Mark England, Olympic Programme Director Kate O’Sullivan and Head of Summer Sport Engagement at the British Olympic Association Tanya Harris, British representatives from the sports federations of boxing, fencing, gymnastics, hockey and swimming also participated in the visit to Brazil.
