If Will Claye was in the slightest bit disappointed with the silver medal he won in the triple jump at Rio 2016 on Tuesday (16 August), any such sentiments must have disappeared moments later. The American leapt into the stands to propose to his girlfriend, American hurdler Queen Harrison, who promptly said yes.

Love is clearly in the air at these Olympic Games: Claye and Harrison became the fourth couple to publicly agree to get hitched so far.

Claye and Christian Taylor had just completed another gold and silver sweep in the triple jump for the United States, emulating their feat at London 2012.

Taylor successfully defended his title with a season-leading jump of 17.86m and Claye finished runner-up again with a personal best of 17.76 metres. China's Dong Bin took bronze with 17.58m.

Love is in the air

Perhaps it is the beautiful Rio de Janeiro landscape that has inspired people to publicly declare their love. Just yesterday Tom Bosworth, a race walker for Team GB, tweeted a photo of him proposing to his boyfriend on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday with the caption: “He said YES!!!”

A day before that, China’s He Zi agreed to marry her boyfriend, fellow diver Qin Kai, who got down on one knee just moments after she received a silver medal in the 3m springboard diving event.

Last week saw Rio 2016's first proposal as Marjorie Enya, the girlfriend of Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo, took to the field after her game and proposed in front of the crowds at Deodoro Stadium.
