The Rio Bid Committee unveiled complete details of its Candidate File today at an international media briefing in London. The delegation included Carlos Nuzman, President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and Rio 2016 and an IOC Member, Carlos Roberto Osorio, Secretary General of the Bid Committee and Janeth Arcain, Rio 2016 Ambassador and double Olympic medallist.
Rio would be an incomparable stage for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and would deliver a truly unforgettable spectacle for live and television audiences around the world, said Carlos Nuzman. We believe that Rio can deliver Games with a genuine Latin flavour and Brazilian spirit. Many people are speaking of change and today we are here to explain that Rio can provide that change and would be a compelling and historic new story for the Olympic Movement, he went on to say.
The Rio 2016 Bid has received unprecedented guarantees from all levels of Government and we are also enjoying growing levels of public support across Brazil. We will unite sport with the unique Rio Carioca spirit and engage over 180 million youth in South America and more across the world. Rio is truly ready, said Mr. Nuzman.
Carlos Roberto Osorio presented details of the Rio 2016 Games Plan consisting of four zones all within Rios city limits, providing a unique hosting environment for the Games. All zones have been planned according to natural development of the city with the priorities of athletes at the centre. Rio 2016 will use the beauty of its natural landscape to stage events in stunning locations and in front of some of the worlds most famous landmarks, guaranteeing that stunning images will be broadcast worldwide.
The plan includes an innovative full stadiums program, working with International Federations to help raise sport presentation to a new level, funding 15 Live Sites around the world to target youth audiences using the latest technology and helping the next generation with the development of the Olympic Training Center (OTC) as a legacy for athlete training.
Mr. Osorio said: Our plans represent a very special opportunity for Olympic sport and we have worked hard to deliver certainty for the 2016 Games. We want to use the passion and the celebration of Rio and Brazil to open up new possibilities for the Olympic Movement.
We have been transparent and clear on our budget and there will be no financial surprises if Rio wins the right to host the 2016 Games.
