Rio de Janeiro is in the official list of applicant cities selected to continue competing to host 2016 Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced on Wednesday, in Athens, that Rio is now one of the candidate cities competing to host the largest sports event in the planet, alongside with Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid.
From now on the competing cities are allowed call themselves candidate city. Up to now they were applicant cities.
Finalist cities will prepare a detailed candidacy dossier containing the entire Olympic project to be submitted to the IOC iby February 2009. The host city of the 2016 Olympic Games will be selected during the International Olympic Committee Congress to take place on October 2, 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
