For the third time in a row, the city holds the competition sponsored by Fifa. Brazil is the world champion for the second time.
In the year when Brazil organized the Pan American Games and when Brazil was confirmed as the host city of Fifas 2014 World Cup and 2008 Indoor Soccer World Championship, Rio de Janeiro successfully played host to a competition organized by Fifa. The 3rd Beach Soccer World Cup, held in an arena for 7 thousand people assembled on Copacabana Beach, entertained Rio's inhabitants.
From November 2 to 11, the tournament was an attraction for the city's residents and Brazilian and foreign tourists, in a real party of the sport by the sea. Sixteen countries took part in the competition, representing the planet's five continents.
In the final match, held on Sunday 11, Brazil confirmed their position as favorites and won the championship for the second year, defeating Mexico 8-2. All the three World Championships of the discipline organized by Fifa were held in Rio, which shows the satisfaction of the entity with the high level of organization in the competitions.
