Rio 2016 Wheel turned off during Earth Hour

By Rio 2016

The Rio 2016 Wheel, in Fort Copacabana, was turned off for one hour yesterday, in support of the Earth Hour movement. Between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, facts about global warming were projected onto the side of the Ferris wheel, and were visible all along the beachfront in Copacabana. At the site, a team from WWF Brasil, event organizer in the country, provided information on the subject to the public.

The Earth Hour movement began in 2007, in Sydney, Australia. In 2008, 371 cities from 35 countries participated in the movement. This year, more than two thousand cities in 81 countries registered. Rio de Janeiro was the first Brazilian city to join the project.
