Rio 2016 water quality monitoring
Rio 2016 is monitoring water quality at the sailing, rowing, canoe sprint, marathon swimming and triathlon venues on a daily basis. See results below.

The Rio 2016 Organising Committee shares the results of water quality monitoring with teams and athletes on a daily basis. Rio 2016 follows the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on recreational water quality. WHO recommends classifying water quality through a combination of sanitary inspection and microbial water quality testing. Sanitary inspection seeks to determine possible sources of pollution, whereas microbial water quality testing measures levels of Enterococci in fresh and marine water and Escherichia coli in fresh water.
The WHO does not currently recommend testing of viruses for routine monitoring given the lack of standardised methods and difficulty interpreting results. More information can be found here.
The following is a summary of the monitoring results since the beginning of official training. Regular updates will be published on this website.
