Only one month remains for you to apply to be a Rio 2016 Games volunteer. Up to now, more than 100,000 people from 180 countries have registered their interest in being part of this team that will help stage the biggest sporting event on the planet. If you want to be part of this story you must sign up by 15 November, but don’t waste any time – sign up here.
“Since registration started, we have had very positive results,” said Rio 2016 volunteers manager Flávia Fontes. “Today we have a group that brings together people from all states of Brazil and from about 180 countries. This will be an excellent opportunity for them to meet and learn to appreciate different cultures, besides having the chance to participate in the biggest sporting event in the world.
“I hope that Brazilians make the most of the opportunity to participate. The first step of this journey is to sign up by November 15 and embark on this Olympic dream with us.”
In total, 70,000 people will be selected: 45,000 for the Olympic Games and 25,000 for the Paralympic Games. There are more than 500 roles to be filled, divided into nine main areas: customer services, sports, press and communications, operational support, ceremonies production, protocol and languages, health services, technology and transport.
All of the selected candidates will receive exclusive benefits that include specialised training, a uniform, transport and food during working days, an online English course and a participation certificate. But perhaps the biggest opportunity is in sharing a unique life experience with new friends while developing professionally by undertaking work that can improve your CV and open doors in the job market.
Applications from abroad are welcome and interest from overseas has been strong, with the largest number of sign-ups so far coming from the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, China and Australia.
To apply you just have to be 18 years old by February 2016 and be available to participate in the period of the Games – from 5-21 August 2016 for the Olympic Games and from 7-18 September 2016 for the Paralympic Games.
