Carlos Arthur Nuzman highlights peoples support
The sunny weather during the IOC Evaluation Commissions visit to Rio de Janeiros sports venues reflected back positively on the Rio 2016 Bid Committee after an intense day of work to all of the proposed Zones of the Rio 2016 Games Plan.
According to Rio 2016 President Carlos Arthur Nuzman, the citys breathtaking natural landscapes worked in harmony with the excellence of the presentations made in each of the four Games Zones Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca, Maracanã and Deodoro.
The 13 members of the Evaluation Commission witnessed first-hand the sports venues proposed for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including several of the legacy facilities from the Rio 2007 Pan American Games and Parapan American Games.
"They asked few questions in the presentations, which indicates they understood and accepted our proposals. In addition, Rio is a city that enchants; the day was sunny and the people gave us total support. All across the city, we witnessed demonstrations of the great desire that Cariocas have to receive the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said Nuzman.
Sports Minister Orlando Silva, Governor Sérgio Cabral, Mayor Eduardo Paes, and Rio 2016 Secretary General Carlos Roberto Osório also accompanied the IOC Commission on the Site Visits.
Rio did its homework and the members had a chance to experience the city, its people and its venues. Without mentioning that playing football with Pelé at the Maracanã and appreciating the beauty of Guanabara Bay are emotional experiences! said Mayor Paes.
Tomorrow, the Evaluation Commissions schedule includes presentations on Security, Medical Services and Media Operations. According to the Sports Minister, Rio de Janeiro has shown itself to be ready to host the Games in 2016.
The IOC Evaluation Commission members can be confident in us from technical and financial points of view in our ability to host the Games. I believe that they very much liked what they saw at the sports venues over the course of the day, said Silva.
