Rio 2016 recalls the successful trajectory of the Olympic bid

By Rio 2016

The successful trajectory of Rio’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016 was remembered on Wednesday, November 11, at the official closing of the bid campaign. The president of Rio 2016 Committee talked about the most important moments of the 10 years of the development of the Olympic project, and the next steps of the Rio 2016 Games Organizing Committee.

“We are closing a successful phase, and we will now proceed with the work of Rio 2016 Games Organizing Committee. We are happy with the efforts made during the bid phase, which were based on three pillars: technical excellence in all areas, promotion of a unique experience for all participants and transformation of both the city and the country”, said Carlos Arthur Nuzman, who delivered the presentation with the Secretary General Carlos Roberto Osório; marketing and communication director, Leonardo Gryner; and operations superintendent Carlos Luiz Martins.

Rio 2016 Committee received R$ 103.708.426,73 from government sources and sponsors. Out of this amount R$ 14.718.868,13 were used for tax payments; and R$ 3.197.035,66 were returned to government treasury. Up to the month of October 2009 the net expenses related to Rio’s bid totaled R$ 80.194.820,10. A balance of R$ 5.597.702,84 was left and it will be allocated to the initial investments to be made by the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee.

Among the next steps to be taken by the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee are the participation in a program of observers at the Vancouver Winter Games 2010, and the preparation of Organizing Committee Progress Report.
