In this Wednesday morning, Rio will present its bid to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the 13 members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission.

The team will make presentations on the 17 themes of the Candidature File over the course of the week at the Copacabana Palace Hotel. In partnership with the three levels of government, the Rio 2016 bid committee will demonstrate that the city is ready to welcome the world's most important sporting event.

After their visit, the Evaluation Commission will produce a report on the four Candidate Cities that will assist IOC members in their selection of the Host City for the 2016 Games in Copenhagen on 2 October.

The first day of presentations will be dedicated to discussion of six themes: Overall Concept of the Olympic Games, Environment and Meteorology, Sport and Venues, Olympic Village, Accommodation, and Transport. Rio de Janeiro’s plans will be set out for the EC members group led by Moroccan Nawal El Moutawakel, which includes seven IOC members, the IOC executive director of the Olympic Games, and specialists in areas such as finance, the environment and transport.

“Rio de Janeiro is prepared. The last few weeks have been dedicated to rehearsals and meetings to fine-tune the details. Rio 2016 has proposals that could offer much to the Olympic Movement, and we will demonstrate this in these meetings,” explained Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of the Rio 2016 bid committee.

Rio 2016 has pulled together a team of specialists for each theme presentation. Carlos Arthur Nuzman will speak at the opening session alongside João Havelange, IOC member and honorary FIFA president; Governor Sérgio Cabral; Mayor Eduardo Paes; and Paralympic athlete Daniel Dias. The Overall Concept of the Olympic Games will be explained by Orlando Silva, Minister of Sport, and Isabel Swan, bronze medal winner at the Beijing Olympic Games, amongst others.

The presentation on Sport and Venues will feature ex-athlete Agberto Guimarães, who won two gold medals (800m and 1,500m) at the 1983 Caracas Pan American Games.

Athletes will have an Olympic Village with top-class infrastructure and special features such as an “Olympic Beach” and “Rua Carioca,” a pedestrian boulevard lined with cafes, restaurants and stores and providing a true Brazilian experience. Sérgio Dias, Urban Planning Secretary of Rio de Janeiro, and Olympian Adriana Behar will be part of the group that will describe the theme.

But it is not only athletes who will enjoy first-rate accommodation, as Tourism Minister Luiz Barretto will explain, during discussions on Accommodation.

The Transport theme will be explained by officials from the three levels of government: Cities Minister Márcio Fortes, State Secretary Júlio Lopes, and Municipal Secretary Alexandre Sansão. To close the day, Rio 2016’s plans for the important issue of the Environment will be detailed by Alexandre Techima, Rio 2016’s infrastructure manager, and State Environment Secretary Marilene Ramos.
