Rio 2016 presents its work during the ODEPA Assembly

By Rio 2016

Rio 2016 Olympic Games Organizing Committee presented on Friday 7th, during the Pan-American Sports Organization (PASO) General Assembly, the progress on the works being done since October 2009. In the event held in Mérida, Mexico, Rio 2016 Committee president, Mr. Carlos Arthur Nuzman, showed the results of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Orientation Seminar that took place in October 2009; of the visit of the IOC Coordination Commission president, Nawal El Moutawakel, last January; and talked about the meeting with the IOC Marketing Department and the 1st IOC Branding Seminar, both held in April. Advances in areas such as safety and infrastructure done by the governments were also presented. In Mérida, Mr. Nuzman also announced that Rio 2016 Committee will have a representation office in Lausanne, Switzerland, so they are closer to the International Olympic Committee and facilitate the organizing process of the Games. According to Mr. Nuzman, this will be the first time that an Olympic Games organizing committee creates a base in the IOC headquarters city. “This is a demonstration of how engaged in active working in the organization of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games we are. We are sure of the amount of work we have ahead of us and of the responsibility before the athletes and the Olympic family, but be sure that we will fulfill our promise of hosting a great edition of the 2016 Olympic Games”, claimed Mr. Nuzman to the representatives of the 42 American countries. Mr. Nuzman explained the care Rio 2016 is having with the structuring of the Organizing Committee, with the hiring of companies such Odgers Berndston (that worked in choosing the executives for London 2012). “We are working with the best companies in the market, so we can guarantee the management quality of the Organizing Committee”, stated him. In June, 12 members of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee are going to take part in the Winter Olympic Games Debriefing, in Socchi, Russia, when the Vancouver 2010 organizers will be passing on their experience to the Russians that are hosting the Games in 2014. Mr. Nuzman also informed the PASO Assembly that the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), an interfederal association formed by the three levels of government – Federal, State and Municipal – that will be responsible for the execution of the infrastructure work of the Games, will be presented next week. Mr. Nuzman invited PASO president, Mario Vasquez Raña, to attend the launching ceremony of the Rio 2016 logo, to be held on December 31st, during the New Year´s party in Copacabana beach. Rio 2016 Committee will carry out, on May 11th (Tuesday), the initial briefing of the Games branding program for the registered agencies in the selective process. The event is taking place at the Sul-América Convention Center (Av. Paulo de Frontin, 1), from 9am to 6pm. Over 100 agencies from all over Brazil registered to take part in the process.
