Foreign visitors leaving Brazil via São Paulo International Airport will now be able to take a little part of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games with them, after the organising committee opened an official shop in the departutres area. It is the first of three stores at the airport, known as Guarulhos, with the other two set to be opened before the end of the year.
São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city and financial capital, already had two official Rio 2016 stores in its domestic airport, Congonhas. The new store in Terminal 3 at Guarulhos offers the full range of official products, such as cuddly versions of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralymipic mascots Vinicius and Tom, pin badges, mugs, magnets, towells, shirts, caps, rucksacks, bags and, of course, Havaianas flip-flops.

As well as the three stores in São Paulo, there are two in Rio de Janeiro: one at Rio International Airport (known as Galeão), the other at the domestic airport (Santos Dumont).
Next year Rio 2016 plans to open shops at airports in the football host cities of Belo Horizonte, Brasília and Salvador.
Rio 2016 aims to generate R$1 billion (US$ 262 million) from the retail of official products, with 30 per cent expected to to be sold to foreign visitors for the Games. About 8,000 different products will be created – nearly 3,000 have already been developed – with the aim of reaching 40,000 sales points across Brazil, in addition to 150 official stores.
