This Monday, the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee held a breakfast meeting at Casa Brasil, located at Somerset House, to introduce its Pre-Games Training Camps Guide to the representatives of the National Olympic Committees (CONs) in London for the 2012 Olympic Games. The online guide lists over 170 sports venues in more than 70 cities in the five Brazilian regions.
The selection of the venues that are suitable for hosting Olympic delegations during the 2016 Olympic Pre-Games training periods resulted from a registration and selection process of 12 months, which took into consideration the technical requisites and recommendations from the International Sports Federations. Other assessment criteria were applied, such as accesses to the venue, distance from domestic airports and hotel and hospital infrastructure available in its surroundings.
“To offer Pre-Games Training Camps in the five Brazilian regions helps us achieve our goal of extending the benefits brought about by the Rio 2016™ Olympic Games to the whole country, fostering the renovation of the national sport infrastructure, tourism and development in several cities. This breakfast meeting was also a first contact opportunity between the CONs and some of the selected venues, as they all received the promotional material of those which prepared some type of communication”, said Leonardo Gryner, CEO of the Rio 2016™ Organising Committee.
As an online tool, the Rio 2016™ Pre-Games Training Camps Guide may undergo new updates until 2016, thereby allowing extending the benefits of the Olympic Games to new venues that failed to complete all the stages of the registration and selection process. The CONs representatives also received a publication with descriptions of each Brazilian region.
