Rio 2016 committee presents its initial structure

By Rio 2016

The team will be joining Vancouver 2010 Winter Games Observers Program

The initial structure of the Organizing Committee of Rio 2016 Olympic Games was presented on Friday, February 5. Besides president Carlos Arthur Nuzman, the following names were confirmed: Communication and Marketing director Leonardo Gryner; director of corporate affairs Carlos Luiz Martins; acting director of operations Mário Cilenti; project manager Alexandre Techima; sport director Agberto Guimarães and legal department director Ana Luiza Pinheiro. Carlos Roberto Osório is leaving his secretary general position to become one of Steering Committee vice-presidents and the head of the new municipal secretariat by invitation of Eduardo Paes. President Carlos Arthur Nuzman explained that Odgers & Berndtson, the executive search firm that worked for Vancouver 2010 and London 2012, was hired to select the remaining top executives for Rio 2016. “As a rule, the organizing committees have from 16 to 20 organizational charts until Games time. Rio 2016 has decided on the names for the initial structure. Carlos Roberto Osório will continue working side by side with us, contributing with his experience. He is just moving from an executive position to the Steering Committee. Carlos Roberto has been with us for twenty years now and he will be very welcome if one day he decides to come back to an executive position”, Nuzman explained. On February 11, Rio 2016 Committee will present its first Progress Report to the International Olympic Committee during IOC’s session before the official opening of Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. The document will describe the work developed both by Rio 2016 Committee and the three level of government in the last four months. During the Vancouver Games, a team of 18 professionals from Rio 2016 and 21 representatives of the three levels of government will be taking part in the Observers Program to learn about the organization and the operation of the various Games areas. “The Observers Program is a unique opportunity to interact with the other organizing committees. The experience of delivering the Games is unique for each area”, Nuzman said.
