On Monday, the Organising Committee for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games signed a cooperation agreement with Interpol in Cartagena, Colombia. The organisation’s Intelligence Services will help the Rio 2016 Committee in the fight against all crimes that may involve sport’s integrity like ticket forgery, match fixing, doping and brand protection, among others.
“Interpol has the policy of protecting sport’s integrity, including the investigation of different illegal activities”, said Rio 2016 Security Director Luiz Fernando Corrêa, who signed the agreement together with Secretary General of Interpol Ronald Noble, during the Organisation’s General Assembly.
The pursuit for security excellence before, during and after the Olympic Games is a commitment made by the three levels of government (federal, state and local). The Rio 2016™ Organising Committee actively participates in its planning, which is considered fundamental so that everyone involved in the event will have an unforgettable participation.
