This Monday, the 28th, the Organizing Committee for the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games held a briefing with the 15 companies selected during phase one of the Rio 2016™ Games Mascots creation process. At the meeting, an overview of the Olympic and Paralympic movements was presented, as well as the essence of the Rio 2016™ Games Emblems, the Games Mascots role and the creative briefing’s technical details.
The President of Rio 2016™, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, took part in the opening and pointed out that the Mascots are an important milestone in each Games edition. “The Mascots mark the Games History. They are responsible for the emotional connection between the Games and the population”.
Chief Operations Officer, Leonardo Gryner, was also present and said that the Mascot’s development process is even more complex than the Emblem’s. “It’s the creation of a character, which needs to be available for various purposes”, he explains.
At the meeting, Andrew Parsons, President of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, presented the Paralympic Movement values and emphasized that the Paralympic Mascot must reinforce what these athletes do best. “Anybody capable of transmitting the sense of overcoming one´s limits through the Mascot, will have achieved the goal”, he points out.
After the briefing, the selected companies will develop their proposals together with the Rio 2016™ team for adjustments and sharpening. Thereafter, companies will be selected for phase three, in which the proposals will be evaluated by research. All phases are qualifiers. The final phase is the jury’s evaluation.
The winner will be selected unanimously. The final prize is 50 thousand reais for the creation of the two Mascots (Olympic and Paralympic), that the public will get to know two years prior to the Games, during the second half of 2014.
